With so much happening in the world right now, it is such a welcome relief to celebrate the happiest of occasions, ANDREW PIMENTEL's Graduation 2020 from USCS!
I know this isn't the graduation you imagined, but the achievement remains that you did it, you are a UCSC graduate, a Banana Slug alumnus! You earned your diploma as a testament to your dedication and hard work (and hard play too, of course). Congratulations Andrew! I couldn't be prouder of you. This is your special moment...I hope to celebrate with you soon! All the best to you always.

You are graduating at a time that is not easy for anyone, and especially hard for graduates missing out on ceremonial occasions and celebrations in person with friends and family.
I know it isn’t easy.
I know you will (justifiably) mourn the loss of the parties that would have been in your honor and those attended in the honor of your friends, the pomp and circumstance of the graduation ceremony itself, and the time that your mom and family would have met your favorite professors. You are living through something no other generation has experienced and you are allowed to grieve the things you expected and to think about what might have been.
But what if, instead of sharing with your future friends photos and memories of your amazing graduation party, you were able to tell people for the rest of your life that you were part of the movement that changed the world? What if you were forever able to say, “I graduated in 2020” and people looked at you with admiration (before even knowing the endless ways they should look at you with admiration!), because you were part of the generation of 2020? Might that not be even better (or, at the very least, take the edge off a little ;)?
Thankfully you have already had one wonderful in-person graduation in your lifetime, and perhaps you will have more in your future. I am grateful that you were part of every graduation that I have had since your birth. You have always been an amazing, loving individual and I can’t wait to see what you bring to the world in the future.
You have wings. Soar as far as the air will take you.
Love from your cousin (and friend), Mehera Hunter-Reay
